Positive Parenting Lessons at Holiday Time

IMG_2464 revisedIt would be great if parents could afford to buy every child exactly what they wanted for Christmas and on other gift giving occasions. As most people know, this is not always possible. It is important that parents explain this fact to their kids and stress to their kids the importance of asking for things they need rather than things they just want. For example, a kid may want a new, expensive baseball bat because the neighbor has the latest “hot” bat. In reality though, the child’s bat from the previous season may still be sufficient for the coming year. Explaining this to children is an important lesson for them to learn. This positive parenting action pays off as kids mature into responsible adults and do not get spoiled. They begin to recognize the value of  money and that their parents work hard for their money and for them.
